Carbon build up in the secondary air injection system of the N62 engine that will not come clean with the use of the AGA N62 Secondary Air Cleaning Kit.

AGA N62 CHAIN LOCK TOOL

AGA Tools has manufactured a N62 Chain Lock Tool to prevent the engine from turning over during a valve stem seal repair.

Our N62 Chain Lock tool was developed based on feedback we received from technicians who have purchased our N62 Valve Stem Seal Tool Kit.

By setting the engine to TCD and pressuring the cylinder, if the TDC is not perfectly aligned the engine can turn over in either direction. Our N62 Chain Lock Tool will prevent this from happening. Before the cylinder is pressurized, insert the chain lock tool to lock the chain and inhibit it from turning over.

Not only does the chain lock tool prevent the engine from tuning over, but it also helps prevent accidents like fingers getting caught, scratching camshafts, or damaging engine components. All in all, the N62 Chain Lock Tool will make the job easier for the technician.

Symptom:
BMW CODE 170, using the BMW Factory Scan Tool OR CODE P0491 for Bank 1 Cylinder 1-4 (right side) or CODE P0492 for Bank 2 Cylinder 5-8 (left side), using a Generic Scan Tool. This normally occurs in vehicles with 100,000+ miles.

Problem:
The air flow from the secondary air injection pump doesn't reach into the exhaust system because the system is blocked. Therefore, the O2 sensors before the catalytic converter don't register a dip in mixture and it sets the code and results in the check engine light coming on.

Solution:
Using the AGA N62 Secondary Air Cleaner Kit.
Air comes in from the secondary air injection pump, through the hose and into the hard line where it splits off. The air comes into the emissions control valve (which is a one way valve) passes through the aluminum tube and into the cylinder head. This is where the restriction is that we are going to clean out. This repair can be done with the engine in the vehicle.

Benefit:
This takes an extremely expensive repair down to a fraction of the cost by using a very simple kit.

Problem: You have a smoking BMW due to bad valve stem seals. The valve stem seal problem is that the old valve stem seal becomes hard over time and doesn’t provide the proper seal between the seal and stem. This allows oil to pass through and enter the combustion chamber and exhaust. In addition, the old style seal does not seal on the inside to the guide, like the newer updated style seal. This creates an oil pocket underneath the seal that oil can accumulate in and make the problem worse. The oil consumption here is bad for a lot of different reasons. Obviously smoking, but also decreased cat life and blockage of secondary air ports. We’ve seen a number of cars that have set CAT inefficiency codes and these codes can go away if you replace the seals if done in time.

Solution: Perform the Valve Stem Seal Repair without removing the intake or exhaust cams by using the AGA N62 Valve Stem Seal Tool Kit. This repair not only saves you hours of labor but also eliminates having to have thousands of dollars invested in Cam timing tools. This is one of the few tools a shop can buy and recover the cost already on the 1st job performed.

Benefit: Eliminates smoking from exhaust, reduces risk of damaging cat converters and plugging secondary air injection. It also allows the car to pass Smog. No need to remove Intake or exhaust cams. No need to buy expensive valve timing tool. No risk of setting the cam timing wrong.
