Description
High flow / high performance air filters that simply replace the factory original versions within the factory airbox.

PERFORMANCE
BMC air filters are designed and produced to ensure a higher air flow than original paper filters. In F1, for example, BMC cotton filters minimize the loss of air flow pressure passing through the air filter; this way ensures the best conditions for full exploitation of maximum power. Therefore the benefits of replacing the original paper filter with BMC cotton air filter, produced using the same technology and materials as the F1 air filters, are evident.

DESIGN AND MATERIALS
Qualified engineers using advanced software and expert technicians using the latest technologies produce BMC air filters. An F1 filter must be very light, must be made of the best raw materials and must improve performance. For this reason we use only alloy mesh with epoxy coating to ensure protection from petrol fumes and from oxidization due to the humidity of the air. The filtering material is composed of a special cotton gauze soaked with low-viscosity oil to give you the best air permeability.

ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY
BMC technical staff has developed a particular production system based on soft rubber moulding which produces the familiar BMC red filters. They are made in one single piece with no welded joints in the corners, thus avoiding breaking risks. This system, called "Full Moulding" comes from R&D in F1 and it is significant of BMC air filters' technical and quality specifics.

Design

For this application we have opted for both banks having large cross sectional turbo inlet tubes with integrated MAFs with smooth non concentric expanding inlet tubes which with silicone couplers. The expanding large volume inlet tube acts like a large velocity stack which accelerates the airflow and is much larger than the small and short velocity stack fitted to the internals of the oem intake. The result of the smoother airflow from our inlet tube is a far smoother lower rpm torque availability from the engine vastly improving drivability. Throttle response is immediately felt to be smoother and more eager.
The inlet tubes are attached via a stainless steel v-band clamps to the air filter housings which attaches directly to the oem front air feeds.

Air Filtration
Within the beautifully shaped carbon shaped enclosures sits our bespoke short stack high surface area filter larger than any cone filter design currently on offer on the market with a huge opening of 170mm (6 3/4") and is designed to take full advantage of the intake tubes by altering the direction of the airflow towards the outer walls. By placing the air filters in front of the inlet tube we achieve the largest velocity stack ever seen for the S55 and which also has the best laminar flow. It is important to note that we have painstakingly opted for the largest possible air filter for a various number of reasons. Not only does a larger air filter allow for more air flow and therefore power but it also does not block up for longer and continues to be efficient at it's main purpose which is to filter the air of harmful elements.

The air filters are completely encapsulated within the air filter housing rejecting the all of the engine bay hot air and with the angle of the front inlet the air circulates around the air filter giving an even distribution of outside cool air.

Air Intake Temperatures | Heat Soak
The result is a system which matches the factory intake system for inlet temperatures. In addition the system changes the air flow characteristics for a smoother delivery and allows more air to enter the turbos more easily.

This fully developed and intelligently designed intake system is not just something that looks good in the engine bay but does an impeccible job as an air smoothing device, increasing air available, increasing air speed into the turbo's, allowing the turbo's to spool faster, filters for longer more efficiently, keeps intake air temperatures low and making a sophisticated race car like intake noise under load. Most important of all, it is the way the engine becomes more alive, responsive and enjoyable to use not just under full load but also normal every day driving.

Dyno Tests

Dyno tests were performed under strict controlled conditions on a Dyno Dynamics machine in order to show a true and realistic result.
Directly inline with the on-road driving experience and a very realistic result.

Average +10-15 WHP / + 10 lb.ft
Average Peak Gains - 15WHP @ 6700rpm
12-15WHP 5800-7500rpm


The results are as expected for a large volume system with ?large velocity stack shaped inlet tubes. The OEM system flows enough up to 4000rpm up to which there are small gains in power. After 4000rpm, power gradually increases to the rpm limiter with 12-16 flywheel HP from 5800-7500rpm.

The Maximum Delta gains from the average stock run vs the highest run with the carbon intakes is also displayed on the third graph. While this is a real result we do not quote this HP gain as part or our marketing. This gain is possible however. The gains are realistic as the power increases from 3000rpm onwards with no gain below this. The graphs are not a phase shift which is typical of dyno tests where the correction factor has been changed to show larger than actual gains for marketing purposes.

Description
The B58 Eventuri intake system is another example of our “Complete System” principal. It demonstrates the perfect balance between allowing for unrestricted airflow with our open filter housing whilst maintaining low IAT by cold air saturation with our scoop and shield combination. Every detail has been meticulously developed from the prepreg carbon pieces to the double layer heat shields. This intake sets a new benchmark in design and craftsmanship for the B58 platform.

Performance Increase: 12-15hp, 14-18ft-lb
Above is a dyno graph showing the comparison between the Eventuri and the stock airbox on a standard B58 M240i. As you can see, power and torque are increased through a large portion of the rpm range. This translates on the road to increased part throttle and full throttle response with the car pulling much more eagerly to the redline. At peak RPM the power curve for the intake merges with the stock airbox - this is due to the fact that on the dyno, the intake relies on the fan to push air through the scoop and into the filter. At high RPM the fan is simply inadequate in providing the required airflow - on the road this would not be a problem and we would expect the intake to continue making power gains up to the redline. The testing was done on the same day back-to-back and temperatures were monitored to ensure consistency.

Carbon Intake Housing Assembly
The filter housing comprises of a high flow filter, aluminium cowl, laser cut bracket, carbon heat shroud and the carbon pod itself, which extends to incorporate the MAF sensor and turbo tube. The carbon pod shrouds the reverse mounted filter and smoothly shapes the airflow down to the integrated MAF intake tube. This smooth reduction in cross sectional area invokes the Eventuri effect where the airflow accelerates whilst maintaining laminar conditions. It can be thought of as a large velocity stack - below is a diagram to show the comparison between our patent pending design and a regular intake system. The carbon filter housing and the inlet tube have been integrated to be 1 continuous piece. This reduces the number of internal interfaces and allows for smoother airflow to the turbo. The diameter of the tube smoothly transitions from the required diameter at the MAF sensor end to the larger diameter of the turbo inlet.

Carbon Heat Shroud

The Carbon filter housing is mated to a carbon heat shroud and an additional aluminium shield which stops the convective heat from the exhaust manifold saturating the filter. This coupled with our comprehensive double layered heat shields combine to provide a very effective cold area around the filter opening.

Carbon Scoop
The scoop was designed for maximum efficiency in directing the incoming air to the stock duct openings. Many aftermarket scoops have a large flat area almost perpendicular to the oncoming air - not great for channeling it into the ducts as the airflow just "hits" this flat portion and creates turbulence.

The Eventuri Scoops have been designed to sit directly behind the front grills to capture as much air as possible and with a continuous curve to the duct opening to ensure this airflow is efficiently channelled. The following video explains the design features behind our M2 scoop which directly apply to the B58 scoop. Having an effective cold air feed to the filter is an essential part of our design. Simply having some heat shields alone would result in elevated inlet air temperatures as the engine bay soaks with heat - especially on this engine since the manifold is directly next to the intake.

Main Heat Sheild
A lot of attention was placed on the heat shielding since the intake is located next to the exhaust manifold. For this we used a double layer main shield with a silver finish on the exhaust side and black on the intake side. The silver layer reflects radiant heat from the exhaust and the black layer absorbs and radiant heat on the inlet side. The air gap between the two layers acts as an insulator to stop the conductive heat spreading to the inner layer. The secondary shield can also be seen in the above photo behind the turbo inlet pipe. During testing we found a temperature drop of over 90 degrees C across the shield which can be clearly seen in the thermal imaging video below. The effectiveness of the shield results in low inlet air temperatures whilst on the move.

Secondary Heat Shield
The final shield mounts above the exhaust manifold and wraps around to protect the turbo inlet from direct heat saturation. Similar to the main shield - this is another double layer configuration with a silver layer on the exhaust side and a black layer on the inlet tube side.
