High flow / high performance air filters that simply replace the factory original versions within the factory airbox.

PERFORMANCE
BMC air filters are designed and produced to ensure a higher air flow than original paper filters. In F1, for example, BMC cotton filters minimize the loss of air flow pressure passing through the air filter; this way ensures the best conditions for full exploitation of maximum power. Therefore the benefits of replacing the original paper filter with BMC cotton air filter, produced using the same technology and materials as the F1 air filters, are evident.

DESIGN AND MATERIALS
Qualified engineers using advanced software and expert technicians using the latest technologies produce BMC air filters. An F1 filter must be very light, must be made of the best raw materials and must improve performance. For this reason we use only alloy mesh with epoxy coating to ensure protection from petrol fumes and from oxidization due to the humidity of the air. The filtering material is composed of a special cotton gauze soaked with low-viscosity oil to give you the best air permeability.

ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY
BMC technical staff has developed a particular production system based on soft rubber moulding which produces the familiar BMC red filters. They are made in one single piece with no welded joints in the corners, thus avoiding breaking risks. This system, called "Full Moulding" comes from R&D in F1 and it is significant of BMC air filters' technical and quality specifics.

Introducing Eventuri's E9X M3 Carbon Fibre Plenum. Made from 100% high-grade prepreg carbon including the internal trumpets, this plenum replaces the stock plastic version and unleashes the roar of the naturally aspirated BMW V8 engine. Since the trumpet lengths are tuned by BMW to the internal volume, changing this could result in a loss of performance so Eventuri kept the same volume to not upset the way the car drives in terms of power delivery.

Although there isn't a performance gain from the carbon plenum, the induction sound generated takes the driving experience of the M3 to a whole new level. The raw V8 rumble gives the M3 an almost CSL like sound and is truly an intoxicating experience. Eventuri went through several iterations using different carbon thicknesses to fine tune the sound and the resulting plenum generates an almost unbelievable induction volume and tone.

The BMW E9X M3 Eventuri intake system is the result of extensive research and optimisation which improves possibly one of the best designed stock intake systems we have seen. The E9X stock airbox system is a brilliantly designed intake with an excellent flow path and feed system for ambient air. However on closer inspection, there are restrictions in the inlet tube connecting the airbox to the inlet manifold. By redesigning the tube yet maintaining the airbox, we have been able to allow the V8 engine to breathe with greater efficiency and therefore gain power. In addition to the new tube design, we also identified a further restriction in the air feed system. To overcome this we designed a scoop to allow an increase in airflow through the airbox. This reduces inlet temperature values further and adds to the performance gain of the system.
The Eventuri E9X M3 intake system consists of a number of components engineered to perform a specific purpose and fabricated to the highest of standards. Here are the details for each component and the design ethos behind them:

Each intake system consists of:
- Carbon Fibre Intake Tube

- CNC Machined breather adapter
- Laser Cut Stainless Steel Debris Guard
- Silicon Coupler and OEM specification clamps

Carbon Intake Tube

The intake tube was designed to improve the airflow path compared to the stock tube - from the filter to the manifold. It is a 1-piece design which has no internal interfaces and therefore provides a much smoother path for the airflow to negotiate. Furthermore the geometrical transition is from a circular opening for the filter to the oval exit for the manifold. This is a much more efficient change in shape when compared with the stock tube which has to transition from a rectangular opening for the filter to the oval exit for the manifold.
In order to appreciate the improvement in the design we must take a closer look at the stock system:
As can be seen - the stock intake tube has 2 concertina sections which are used to allow the tube some flexibility for engine movement. These sections introduce multiple internal interfaces to the oncoming airflow which results in turbulence and therefore a less efficient path for performance. The Eventuri tube on the other hand has zero internal interfaces and so airflow is allowed to stay laminar which allows the engine to breathe more efficiently.
Another drawback of the stock tube is the large internal face at the stock filter connection. This exposed wall causes airflow to circulate as it enters the tube from the filter due to the sharp change in geometry from the rectangular filter opening to the more oval tube shape.
Now this can be compared with our tube design which has a much more gradual change in shape from a circular opening at the filter end to the oval opening at the inlet manifold end:

Flexibility and Movement

An important challenge to overcome was the requirement of movement with the engine. Instead of using silicon couplers with flexible sections (which would introduce similar interfaces as the stock tube), we designed the tube itself to be able to move with the engine. The tube has a compressible neoprene band around the section which interfaces with the stock airbox. This section seals the tube to the airbox yet allows movement in and out of the airbox as the engine moves. By allowing the tube itself to move - we have been able to create a flow path which is as smooth as possible.

Carbon Air Scoop
The E9X M3 airbox system is saturated with cold air from 2 feeds : a lower feed from underneath the headlamp and an upper feed from behind the kidney grills. The primary feed is the lower one from underneath the headlamp as it connects directly to the airbox with minimal change of direction and a large opening to the airbox. This is also a high pressure area of the car and airflow moves through the airbox from underneath to the exit at the top connecting to the exit vent in the bonnet. The other feed from behind the kidney grills which, although is a welcome addition, provides a much lower volume of air to the airbox than the lower feed. This is because airflow has to change direction through 90 degrees twice and also because the duct narrows down significantly before the entry to the airbox.
Looking at the lower duct more closely, it becomes clear that the duct has a large ridge which comes back on itself just before the opening to the airbox. This acts as a barrier which inhibits direct entry of airflow to the box by reducing the entry speed of the airflow.
By designing a scoop to sit on top of the stock duct and curve up sooner to eliminate this ridge - airflow is now allowed to transition from the duct to the airbox without restriction.
The airflow path is much smoother and as a result, the velocity of the air entering the airbox significantly increases. This allows the intake temperatures to be lower than without the scoop : we have data logged IATs road where we managed to reduce intake air temperature by 2 degrees using the scoop. To illustrate the effectiveness of the scoop, we devised a simple experiment with a leaf blower to generate flow and an air speed meter to measure the speed of the air entering the airbox. We secured the blower in one position so that it pushed air directly into the lower duct and placed the meter inside the airbox to measure the speed coming in. Results showed a significant increase in speed of almost 50% when using the scoop. The full testing video can be seen in the Video Tab.

Debris Shield
The final component is a debris shield attached to the filter - this deflects debris and water from impacting the filter directly. With the increase of airflow entering the airbox with the scoop - this is an important addition. There is no negative impact on performance since the airflow is not impeded through the airbox - temperatures are still lower than stock.

Design
For this application we have opted to do a complete redesign of the entire airbox.
The factory intake elbow reduces in size considerably from the plenum opening to the airbox. Increasing the size or smoothing the inlet elbow has been the norm for most intakes with little to no effect in power. The effect on airflow is minimal even if there is an increase in size after going through the restrictive and small area through the OEM airbox.

Our design strategy was to create an inlet tube which kept the cross sectional area of the plenum opening consistent and enlarged it. In order to accomplish this we needed to redesign the complete airbox to allow such a large tube to pass through it.

The end result is a inlet tube which is significantly larger in volume and cross sectional area which slowly increases in size as it goes to the large surface area air filter. The plenum can now take in air to it's maximum capacity as the cross sectional area remains the same and increases.

The below images show the dramatic increase in size and how much larger the opening is to the air filter in comparison to the oem intake system.

Dyno Test
Dyno tests were performed under strict controlled conditions on an independent Dyno Dynamics machine in order to show a true and realistic result.
The test car was a 100% stock 2012 DCT with 62,000 miles.

A healthy and genuine increase of 10-12hp | 8-10 lb.ft from 6000-8300rpm

The results shown are the highest stock result vs the highest result with the intake. This can be clearly seen from the shape of the stock dyno run as it's shape is smooth and the power does not fall off at the high rpm. The stock car makes it's peak power at the factory 8300rpm.
Many companies will use stock runs which are early runs in the session with high IAT's which result in the ECU retarding ignition timing. This results in a graph which does not have a natural shape and flattens off at high rpm.
More importantly, the upgraded airbox dyno graph does not have a torque curve which has a consistent gain through the rpm range. These types of dyno results suggest a correction factor has been used to show a false gain.
The test performed here shows a realistic result as the torque curve is almost identical at low rpm and only begins to gain power after 4000rpm and especially after 6000rpm where the air demand is higher.

With modified cars with exhausts which delete the highly restrictive primary catalytic converters, the results will be similar or higher.

Air Filtration
Within the beautifully shaped carbon shaped enclosures sits our bespoke short stack high surface area filter larger than any cone filter design currently on offer on the market with a huge opening of 170mm (6 3/4") and is designed to take full advantage of the intake tubes by altering the direction of the airflow towards the outer walls. By placing the air filters in front of the inlet tube we achieve the largest velocity stack ever seen for the S65 and which also has the best laminar flow. It is important to note that we have painstakingly opted for the largest possible air filter for a various number of reasons. Not only does a larger air filter allow for more air flow and therefore power but it also does not block up for longer and continues to be efficient at it's main purpose which is to filter the air of harmful elements.

The air filters are completely encapsulated within the air filter housing rejecting the all of the engine bay hot air and with the angle of the front inlet the air circulates around the air filter giving an even distribution of outside cool air.

Air Intake Temperatures | Heat Soak
The result is a system which matches the factory intake system for inlet temperatures. In addition the system changes the air flow characteristics for a smoother delivery and allows more air to enter the engine more easily.

This fully developed and intelligently designed intake system is not just something that looks good in the engine bay but does an impeccible job as an air smoothing device, increasing air available and adding a race car induction sound.??

Your E9X M3 s / 335I s main source of air is a 2.5" or 3" opening behind the front center grill. The problem is that the openings are sideways. Head on airflow will find its way to the radiator and oil cooler while the engine tries to pull in its share of air that is passing by.

The RPI ram air scoops capture and channels air directly into the factory intake ducting. This encourages pressurization of the intake boxes with cool and dense air. Our complete system has a proven advantage in that the source of air is completely from the outside. Induction type systems suffer from extreme under hood temperatures which results in a loss of power. Heat shielding around induction filters are only good for blocking radiant heat but does not seal the intake filters off from under hood heat.
