The heart of the ER Competition FMIC is the massive 20"x11"x3" (26"x11"x3" with end tanks) featuring their famous high density bar and plate intercooler core. It features 660 cubic inches of very efficient high density bar & plate core (35% larger) versus the factory 425 cubic inches of less efficient tube & fin core. Through extensive testing of different types of intercooler cores (tube & fin, bar & plate) we developed our own high density bar and plate core. What's different about our bar and plate core you ask? Fin density. Why is this important? The fins are the main heat transfer surface. More fin density = more actual surface area. What does this mean in the real world? Most quality intercooler cores utilise around 12-14 fins per square inch. Cheap quality oversea cores utilise around 8-10 fins per square inch (some even lower) which explains why they perform so poorly even though a large core is utilised. Our Evolution Racewerks cores are 18-20 fins per square inch.

One of the most overlooked aspect of intercooler design is the intercooler end tank and piping. Having shorter and less bends on the intercooler piping will promote better internal flow. This helps in reducing turbo lag, increase throttle response and faster boost spool ups. An intercooler end tank must be designed to channel and distribute air coming in from the inlet efficiently throughout the intercooler core. Evolution Racewerks end tanks design has been revised numerous times to promote smooth internal air flow. The cast end tanks allow us to have nice smooth radius on the inner edges of the end tank, causing less turbulence. The inlet pipe angle has been changed to provide a smooth entry into the end tank and removes an extra bend that the factory hoses have. Rubber hosing expands under boost pressure. This expansion disrupts internal flow and causes turbulence, all of which slow down airflow velocity (which causes slower boost spool up and decreased throttle response). By replacing ALL the factory rubber hoses with hard piping, noticeable increases in boost spool up and faster throttle response can be seen.

All Evolution Racewerks intercooler applications come standard with a mirror polish intercooler and piping. They also offer and stock their intercooler applications with Type III Hard Black Anodising for a stealthy look. Another added benefit of the Type III Hard Anodising is that it makes the intercooler fins harder and stronger, which makes it less prone to getting bent/damaged from road debris like rocks etc... Testing has shown no noticeable ill-effect from the Type III Hard Anodising on performance (regular spray paint etc... has shown ill-effects on performance).

Evolution Racewerks Competition FMIC is offered in 3 different packages:

- Basic Kit:
The Basic Kit consists of the intercooler assembly. This replaces the factory intercooler.

- Standard Kit:
The Standard Kit consists of everything included in the Basic Kit but adds the Charge Pipe Kit. Increase throttle response as well as decrease turbo lag are the benefits of the new Charge Pipe Kit. Ease of installing methanol injection kits or a boost pressure source are an added benefit. Charge Pipe is discounted in the bundle.

- Full Kit:
The Full Kit consists of everything included in the Standard Kit but adds the Turbo to Intercooler Pipe Kit (TIC Pipe). Increase throttle response as well as decrease turbo lag are the benefits of the new TIC Pipe Kit. With the Full Kit, ALL the factory rubber and plastic intercooler pipes will be replaced. You will have full hard piping throughout your system. TIC Pipe is discounted in the bundle.
