Get the handling your E39 M5/540 that it deserves!

As BMW E39 M5/540s get higher in mileage, you can start to feel a shimmy that occurs in the front suspension at highway speeds. This often gets worse while braking, which makes it feel like tires are out of balance or rotors are out-of-round. The common problem is that the front thrust arm bushings go bad, leaving for handling that has much to be desired. Instead of replacing the factory front thrust arm bushings every 60k miles (less if driven hard), our solution is designed to to outlast and outperform the factory bushing.

Rogue Engineering's Thrust Arm Bushings (TABs) is an elegant, engineered solution to this issue. How do we do it? See below how we sweat the details.

No Need to Stress Out

One of the biggest reasons why the factory E39 M5/540 thrust arm bushings (BMW p/n 31-12-0-006-482) wear out so quickly is that they are continually under stress (load). As you drive the car, the factory thrust arm bushings have continual torsional loads being exerted onto the bushings while driving. This continuous twisting load on the on the inside of the bushing is the beginning of the end for the factory bushing. Some people have tried to used factory X5 bushings as replacements (BMW p/n 31-12-6-769-715) with better results, but we're looking to resolve this in a big way.

Rogue Engineering's TABs are designed allow the thrust arm to move without this spring load, but instead, allowing movement though its range without this specific resistance. By allowing the center bolt sleeve to pivot instead of our custom urethane-silicone bushings smoothly, there is no unnecessary wear and tear.

Another Urethane Bushing?

Some will try to compare the Rogue Engineering Thrust Arm Bushings to a currently available urethane replacements. There is a big difference! Instead of using urethane to control the entire area of deflection, we've engineered an aluminum housing to reduce the ID of the hole of the thrust arm bushing. By doing this, we can fine tune the urethane compound so that we can get performance without unwanted NVH. In order to get our level of deflection control, other companies would have to make their entire bushing so incredibly hard that their product would either vibrate, squeak or both!

Handling Improvements

The Rogue Engineering TABs does more than reduced unwanted thrust arm movement and extend bushing life. By producing the RE TAB with a centered configuration, we slightly reduce the vehicle's excessive factory front caster. This means better steering wheel response in everyday and performance driving.

Get in Control!

Are you looking for more control over the front end of your BMW? We've got the solution for you!

While the stock front tension arm bushings are designed to offer a compliant ride while trying to control the front, it cannot overcome age, added power, or increase use (like at the track).

This front bushing takes a large share of the suspension load under braking and hard cornering. Our solution is designed to to outlast and outperform the factory bushing in many ways.

Rogue Engineering's Tension Arm Bushings (TABs) is an elegant, engineered solution to this issue.

Rogue Engineering's TABs are designed allow the thrust arm to move without this spring load, but instead, allowing movement though its range without this specific resistance. By allowing the centre bolt sleeve to pivot instead of our custom urethane-silicone bushings smoothly, there is no unnecessary wear and tear.

Our exclusive, made in USA, urethane bushing has all the same properties as the other bushings Rogue Engineering produces. A special silicone formula is injected into each and every bushing mold during the casting process to ensure a lubricious film impregnated at all times (even without grease!).

What is a transmission mount?

The transmission mounts in a BMW are a common part that is frequently overlooked.

The transmission mount is designed to do the following:

Help stabilize the transmission under vehicle load allowing the shifter to engage into gear properly.
Isolate vibration from the drivetrain to the chassis.

Under engine load, the transmission can wiggle left and right slightly, worse when the car is being driven hard into turns. This unwanted movement may potentially causing the driver to miss shift. When we sought to have our own transmission mounts produced, we wanted them to be compliant for street use, with no compromises in performance.

What we have is a transmission mount made from Neoprene rubber, with a completely different shape than the factory mount. The hourglass shape of the factory mount is not the best for stabilizing the transmission. By changing the shape to the cylindrical shape of the Rogue Engineering mount, it reduces deflection significantly, while maintaining damping.

The Rogue Transmission Mounts are sold as a pair, and come with Grade 8 Zinc plated hardware. Unlike other aftermarket mounts, the mounting plate and studs of our mounts have been Cadmium plated to prevent corrosion.

Note: Priced as a pair.
